The beaches
The wider area of Volos and Pelion can boast of having some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Next to Volos there are the classic beaches of Anavros and Alykes, but the people of Volos prefer the slightly more distant beaches of the Pagasitic Gulf such as Kato Gatzea, Kala Nera, Boufa (Koropi), Paradisos, Kallifteri and Ambovo (Afissos), all of which are calm and shallow, suitable for families and small children. But these beaches that are exotic in beauty are the beaches on the other side of Pelion, in the Aegean Sea. They are open beaches, unprotected from the elements of nature and many times you may experience Futuna or Meltemi winds and very large waves. But if the weather is good, swimming in them is an experience!
