The mountain

Volos is fortunate to be built at the foot of one of, by all accounts, the most beautiful mountains in Greece, Pelion. According to the Greek mythology, it was the summer residence of the of gods and homeland of Centaurs. A short distance from Volos, in just a few minutes, you can find yourself in some of the most beautiful villages of Pelion. Portaria, Makrinitsa, Milies, are the best known. But also get to know some other beautiful villages such as Agios Lavrentios, Agios Vlasios, Agios Georgios, Pinakates, Vizitsa, Neochori, and the slightly more distant ones, from the eastern side of Pelion, Tsagarada, Zagora, Mouresi and finally the most remote but with an island air, Trikeri. All easily accessible for a day trip based in Volos. Also, during the winter months, the ski resort in Chania is the only ski resort in Greece, and perhaps in Europe, where while skiing, you can enjoy the view of two seas, the Aegean Sea on one side and the Pagasetic Gulf on the other.

In Pelion, the picturesque and beautiful paths are endless. Others lead you from settlement to settlement and others through virgin forest to a deserted, beautiful beach.

Finally, the well-known Pelion train. With a track width of just 60 centimeters, it is the narrowest railway line in Greece and one of the narrowest in the world. Its route extends from Ano Lechonia to Milies, through a lush green landscape with a view of the Pagasetic Gulf, and crosses stone arches and bridges. Secure on time tickets for a ride with the legendary “Moutzouris”.
